Laphroaig 10

Laphroaig 10 bottle

Today whe are trying Laphroaig 10, the flagship whisky produced by the Laphroaig distillery.

Laphroaig is a distillery located on the island of Islay in Scotland. The local distilleries have traditionally used peat as a fuel for the fire to dry the malted barley. Laphroaig is no exception to this. They produce exclusively single malt whiskys with a strong peaty aroma that comes from the aforementioned drying process.

The Laphroaig folks like to finish their whiskys on special casks to create different whiskey varieties. However, Laphroaig 10 does not advertise any special finish, and some sources point it has been aged mostly on ex-bourbon casks.

This whisky is bottled at 40% ABV, is chill filtered and uses artificial coloring.

Smell notes: Smoky, caramel, iodine, medicinal, cigarette. Taste notes: Smoke, wood, spicy.

It’s not very alcoholic. There is a light alcohol note on the nose, but it’s nowhere to be found on the mouth.

Overall I’d say this is a delicious whisky with a medium to high smokiness level.
